The Links won the prestigious Excellence Award in the Natural Habitats Landscapes Catagory at the 2009 Property Council of New Zealand awards, click here to view a video of the event.

‘The Links’, a 164 lot, residential land development in the New Plymouth region is adjacent Ngamotu Golf Course and Hickford Park.

This 24.2 Ha greenfield development is New Plymouth’s premier residential community. The comprehensively masterplanned community has been designed to allow for a variety of residential lifestyles, to encourage all lifestages to invest in property.

The consultant team paid particular attention to establishing a sensitive environmental approach to the development. :

The six awards for 2009 cover a wide range of industrial, business and civic activity, and recognise environmental investments totalling millions of dollars. This years awards bring the total in this category to 33 since 1993 .

• The Links coastal development for environmental enhancement and stormwater treatment: Developers of the 164-lot subdivision are taking care to enhance a former gully and farm/drain stream. The revitalised and revegetated lake habitat area supports rare fauna, including teal. The wetland system also detains and treats stormwater from the development before discharge from the site. The low-impact design of the site includes rain gardens in the road network to pre-treat stormwater before it enters the gulley lake system. Future roads will feature rain gardens and the final stage will feature a 'dry river bed' to encourage percolation of stowmwater to ground rather than piping.
